Fishing Areas

The region of Parikkala offers a range of fishing opportunities from small lakes and trout-fishing in rivers all the way to open-water fishing. Every year many fishing competitions are held, the largest of which is the troll-fishing competition in Lake Simpele.
Lake Simpele is famous for its whitefish, but other species are also available. Trout, pike perch and pike can also be lured. Lake Simpele is a source of trout weighing up to 5 kg, and pike perch up to 7 kg. Nets can also be used to catch the above-mentioned species plus whitefish, burbot, large perch and tasty vendace. It's easier to catch perch using a jig. Lake Simpele's fish stocks are maintained through sustainable fishing and planting.
