Deserted Orthodox Village
Near to Uukuniemi Church Village at the Papinniemi campsite are the remains of a 17th-century deserted Orthodox village. This contained the main Uukuniemi Orthodox Church, its cemetery and place of residence. Archaeologists from the University of Turku are carrying out research at Papinniemi and many other objects of interest have been excavated here. This research work has been ongoing since 1995.
