Lintuinmaa in Parikkala offers enthusiasts of photography marvellous opportunities to capture nature on film, and photographers are a familiar sight at our places of natural beauty. We have lakes thronging with birds, each more beautiful than the last, rugged ridges, exotic lush vegetation, traces of the Ice Age and the migration of Arctic birds. Parikkala is part of the Ladoga-Karelia grove belt, which endows the local natural environment with an eastern flavour. It is a meeting point for the coniferous forests of the north, the rare phenomena of the south-east and the diverse species of the south.
Things worth photographing can particularly be found around hiking trails and bird-watching sites. Of the best-known Finnish nature photographers, most of the works of such pioneers as Mikko Pöllänen and Hannu Siitonen are photographed in Parikkala. Parikkala's bird-watching and nature guides will take you right into the heart of the best sites for photography.
In summer, Valolla has exhibitions of photography. It also displays handicraft.
You can also take part in a course on nature photography, which is held every year.
